Looks like you've put a heap of work into that lower cowl induction system and landing light installation. Looks very impressive and I'm guessing it's taken many hours. Is that red component inside the induction inlet some kind of filter ?. Also, what are those small "bumps" on each side of the upper cowl ..... are they clearance protubences for something on the engine ? Your composite work looks really good. Congrats on a nice job.

That does look impressive. Had I needed to do modifications to my fiberglass stuff I would have thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you did. I found the cowling work to be some of the most gratifying work so far.

Very cool, Ben! I like the way you’re bringing metal further aft on the belly... I thought of that too, and wish I had done it. What engine do you have? Also, that filter & induction system look empressive. What kind of filter is it? Really nice work!

Thanks David, yes the red component is a cone filter.
The bumps on the upper cowl where already there and where to clear the forward cylinder heads, now I've widened the cowling I could get rid of them but I will probably leave it the way it is.
At least your cowling should fit pretty well as it was designed for a carburettor engine, I was having clearance issues to the fuel injection flow devider on top of the engine which was another reason I went for the 1" bigger spinner as it has lifted the cowling enough to clear.

Thanks John, the engine I have is a YIO-233.
The filter is a cone filter they use on high performance cars, its design is kind of the reverse of the K&N cone filters allowing the air to enter at the large end and gives a better airflow pattern.

Eddie, yes it's enjoyable to see the front of the aeroplane take shape with the cowling!

Ross, it will defiantly be finished for Saturday.... just not sure which one yet.
