I'm putting a recording tach in my KF 7. Do I need a Hobbs? Seems like the only reason I can think of for having a Hobbs is to pad my hours, since it starts on the key switch....
Thanks,

It's your call I guess. I only have the hour meter in my GRT EIS4000 that counts up when above 2500 rpm. I know some like to have the manual hobbs meter that can't be accidentally reset via software etc, but I figured it was just another thing to buy and install.
I use the hobbs reading off the Dynon (records when the engine is running) don't see a need for additional meter.

I use the built in Hobbs in the Dynon 120 for flight time and the Dynon 120 tach time for airtime. You need have the master and avionics on,to record times, this is one downside of this setup. Kevin
