    Default installed soft start today

Hello everyone! I installed the soft start module from Leading Edge Air Foils today! The install was about 1.5 hrs long since I had to move the Magnetos to their own toggle switch since I had the key switch! On testing, I shut 1 mag off and started my 912. It helped the violet shake that I got when starting! It starts very smooth! If anyone has this issue with their Rotax I would try this.

    thanks Patrick

    Hello Patrick

That is great news to hear, I am considering the same with LEAF. Most people I speak with about this say it is well worth the money and much easier vibration on the airframe/electronics
Think the new conversion comes in around $2,400 with labor.

My 2003, 912ULS and has the green stripe coils atop the engine, yet to be fired up for testing.

    Appreciate the commentary.

Has anyone else installed the soft start conversion on their 912's? ... and to what level of success?

another alternative is to lower the base idle and start with the throttle pulled all the way back. once it starts you add throttle. cheaper than 2200 dollars in my book. no, you don't run it at low idle, you give it throttle to keep 2000 rpm. you could just put in a McFarlane throttle I suppose. Oh, it's important to choke it with mags off for about 6 seconds first.

either way, you have to have a smooth start or you will take out the 1 way clutch, a real bummer.

I put the bully-hawk in my 2003 912S after a few rough starts ( ~9 years ago), has been smooth starting ever since.

I have a 912ULS, 2013 vintage. After a few rough starts in the cold weather, I decided to wire up the soft start function built into the newer engine ignition modules, something I had not done when I built the plane. It seems to work well so far.

At this stage it's a no go,myselfe and brother spent nearly an hour looking through numerous boxes and came up blank(I bought the hanger from a retired avionics tech who was als a bit of a hoarder)it is definatly in there somewhere. I will have another look in a week or two.
    apologys for the delay.
    cheers
