The 180 oil or the 215 cylinder? 220 is my indicated redline so I’m a little nervous taping as much of the cooler as I did to get the oil temp to 200.
you are from boise, no way that's a problem. leave it alone. I have a thermostat on my oil and I think it keeps it 180. I've flown over 2000 hrs with that and have never seen water in my oil. I'm just north of you a couple hundred miles. leave it and go fly.

The experts say 180 is the minimum temperature needed to remove water form your oil. The oil temp is actually getting hotter elsewhere in the engine, that is why 180 works. I would say 180-200 is ideal.

Which engine do you have? The 912ULS CHT max is 275F. The 912UL CHT max is 300F. Oil temps between 190F and 230F are normal. The Rotax 912 operating manual is the source for those numbers.

Sounds good guys. I will leave it alone with the exception of possibly partially taping the oil cooler as needed this winter.

Just looked at thread thanks for info just bought a 7 with 912 and first time flew it like to have jumped threw my skin when I say temps rising so high. Have a lot to learn about engine. Been flying 4 with 582 1100egts. Not used to 1300s. And 213 oil temp.
For a 912, F120º oil temp is the MINIMUM takeoff temp. So 180º is just barely warmed up. I like to see at least 200º for normal operations.
My old IV-1050 (912UL) didn't even have an oil cooler on it.
Just FYI the newer rotax912uls max cht is 248f If you run them to 275 you will be boiling your water. What’s confusing is your really reading max coolant temp sensor on the cylinder which most are calling CHT. Didn’t want someone to read the thread and get the two numbers confused. Make sure you know what cylinders you have and what temp your actually reading, coolant or true CHTs.
