Dorsal and Thor821. Sorry to mix things up again. The Patey brother borrowed me there Dynavibe so I was able to use it today. You can take me off the list. Thanks and sorry for switching things around.

I just received the Dynavibe. I should have time this weekend to get my prop balanced and will send it to Skidookid asap. Questions I have. I assume once balanced, pitch changes can be made without having to rebalance correct? Also What are people using for balance weight and where are you mounting them on whirlwind props?

    Joe,
Where weight is needed I replaced two of the perimeter screws that hold on the spinner, I used ones long enough to put a few washes and a nut on the back.

Typically you install the final (permanent) weights on the spinner backplate as far outboard as possible. Use a screw/bolt, self locking nut and washers as needed to make the correct weight. You will need to drill a hole in the backplate at the correct clock position. Make sure it doesn't rub on your cowling.

Another method is to put the final weight on the inside of the backplate flange. To do this you may need to make a countersunk hole and use a countersunk machine screw holding the weights.

BTW there is a maximum weight you should install on any spinner bulkhead and it can vary depending on the brand/model. This has to do with the structural strength of the backplate (think about the centrifugal force).

While doing the balancing I remove the spinner screw nearest the correct clock position and install a longer screw/washers of the correct weight. Don't forget to account for the weight of the screw you removed. Sometimes it's best to split the solution weight between two spinner screws.

I haven't used a Dynavibe, but hopefully it can do all of the calculations for splitting weights and the final weight (if it is installed at a different radius).

Hey all! It Took a bit longer than expected to get the balancing done but its complete and I got it down to an average of between 0.04 and 0.09. Who's next?
