Hi GDN, 2000 is about the norm for 582 idle, adjust it so that the engine idles smooth it could be 1900 or 2100 R's.

On the Bing 54 carbs, when you turn the idle adjust screw, is clockwise leaner or richer?

Hey Carlisle, Neither. Rich or lean is determinded by jetting. The idle adjust turns counter-clockwise to decrease rpm-clockwise to increase. To increase idle speed, open throttle slightly to remove pressure on slide and turn each screw the same amount. Thanks, James Thomas

Sorry. I used the wrong terminology. I meant the idle MIXTURE adjustment screw. The little one that faces forward and is just ahead of the carburetor throat.

I've had both gray and blue head 582s. Mine did not really smooth out until more like 2,500-2,700.

Hey again Carlisle, The small screw is the air screw. Not sure about the 582 but on a 503, Rotax says screw in until screw bottoms out and turn counter-clockwire 1/2 turn then you can make small adjustments from there. It's been a long time since I've made any adjustments on my 503 Hawk so I had to Google "Bing 54 air screw adjustment". I'm sure one of these sites can answer better than I can. James Thomas
