I use Adobe Premier. These days you dont have to buy the software you can just pay a monthly subscription instead (it used to be around 1000 bucks to buy)
It is simple to use, intuitive, and there are looots of how to videos online. It also is chock full of professional grade features that you will probably never use.

I like free software.
Right now my goto is Gopro Studio. Second on the list is iMovie.
I use Microsoft Movie Maker. It's free and quite easy to use for basic editing. If you want to be more creative you'll have to pay.

Of course, it's only available for Windows.

I use Power Director 15. 16 is available. It has pretty good image adjustment functions - brightness, contrast and color management as well as easy editing functions. Very frequent sales promotions. List $129.99
It depends on which computer platform you are using. I personal prefer Mac (Apple) and use Final Cut Pro, however iMovie does a great job and it is free with your Mac. You can also do impressive quick movies with the iMove app on an iPad or iPhone. The free GoPro Studio software is very limited but allows for basic editing and works good with GoPro footage. Lots of good reviews and tutorials on cameras and editing software.
I agree with some of the other posts regarding the MAC. The iMovie that comes with the MAC is easy, free and does everything I want it to do. I work in TV video production and when I'm not at work, I prefer the ease of iMovie.
