You could always just get small self locking nuts and small machine screws. That is what I did and I am not certain why. I think I was anticipating being able to remove and repaint them. I rattle can sprayed those parts. They still seem fine so no need to remove them yet. In addition to that, I was anticipating splitting the turtle deck as many have done. Haven't felt the need to do that yet either.

Great feed back and I'll follow the SS machine nuts and screws. Will be much nicer to not be worrying about cracks from too much pop rivet tension

And, John, always nice to see a detail from your plane such as the material that closes the cutout sweep for the flaperon tubes.

I'm at the stage where ToDo list items are being shuffled aside in the interest of getting the plane inspected and going flying. As example:

    • Touch up the paint where the rivet gun scratched the flaperon hinges. Nope, get ready for the inspection and fly this thing!

Do the newer foxes not require a nylon support bearing for the flaperon tube where it passes through the turtledeck? On my model 4 there is one half below the flaperon tube attached to the fuselage with a hinge, and the upper half of the bearing is attached to the turtledeck.

You are correct John. No bearing there anymore.

FWIW, I riveted the strakes on per the book with just the aluminum rivets and no backing washers or strips with no problems whatsoever. The aluminum rivets pull and pop with much less force than SS rivets.

So what changed making the bearing not needed?

A nearby Sunoco gas station sells Ethanol-free, 93 octane fuel. After watching a very good EAA webinar on the 912iS, I'll primarily burn MoGas. This fuel transfer trailer was assembled from readily available parts, will haul 110 gallons, and costs around $1800. With the difference between MoGas and Avgas prices, the trailer should pay for itself at around 200 hours of flying. Our small, grass strip airport does not have a fuel service so there is the added convenience of having a supply in the hanger vs flying to another airport for fuel. When I get a bit of time, I'll detail the parts list.

The fuel cart looks great Carl. Very handy!
