My reason for installing a valve was to prevent a bypass situation of coolant through main radiator, as a Kitfox IV floatplane I was concerned with water temp on climb out in the heat of summer, and the plumbing of heater core allows for coolant heading to rad to bypass through heat core back to water pump inlet, so I installed a rugged ball valve made from plastic on outlet side of core under dash, within reach to block flow in summer, can regulate in winter on skiis..Been working great,

I'd love to see a picture of the plumbing when you get a chance. Thanks everyone.

I would think that keeping the heater core flow open would give you more cooling capacity than just flow thru the radiator. Its like an extra radiator especially if you turn the fans on. On cars we always knew that if the engine was overheating pulling a trailer up a grade you could help the cooling by turning on the heater to full blast even though it might be uncomfortable in the cabin.

I believe the ram air efficiency of the rad/scoop is far better than the little fan on the core and having the valve still gives you the ability to do that should the need arise but also to shut off unwanted heat in cabin in the middle of July or August, plus ensure all coolant flow coming out of spider tank goes through rad.

Some pics of my cabin heat/ Valve plumbing..I can reach shut off under panel, but leave it off for summer, and on for winter mostly.. Changing engine mount currently, plus not to much snow this winter, hence no ski flying

This is what I have installed. I haven't used it yet, so I don't know how
    well it will perform.

Love those AN fittings Mr.Bill, looks sweet, that Valve is great too, looks like it is plumbed between the two cores?. anywhere would work, nice job.

Pic of automotive heater flow control valve on my Vixen. Installed in 1999 with no issues.
Push pull control provides selectable water flow.
    Trouble free so far.
    Cheers
