Heat transfer paste

Just read the article in EAA Sport Aviation mag. and found interest in the article on spark plugs and the fact that a heat transfer paste should be used. and NOT an anti-seize compound.
At $166 for a 5 oz. tube I was a bit shocked. Does anybody know of a smaller amount of the stuff that is available? At my age and only one Rotax engine in my fleet of one I would like to find a more reasonable option. Jeff B

Forgot to mention - make sure you buy true thermal paste, NOT thermal adhesive - you'd regret that move!

I think we have been here before.

Dow Corning 340 Heat Sink Compound Lubricant/grease has the same purpose/use and ingredients as the proudly priced rotax stuff.

Neither Dow or Rotax will give you the formula obviously; but, if a person reviews the MSDS for both products (which has to show certain data) and the color/texture, characteristics/purpose of the stuff it is hard to tell them apart except for the price and branding.

The DC 340 is sold in 5 oz as the smallest size and that runs about $35 ....a person can get larger quantities but 5 ounces can be shared among a dozen rotax powered Kitfox pilots and that would still last about 700 years.

The DC 340 can be purchased from electronic supply places.

There used to be a similar heat transfer past available through Radio Shack. 1 or 1.5 oz tube for a couple bucks. That's where I got mine years ago.

If you order your plugs from Lockwood, you will see a small packet of the paste (I believe it is the Rotax approved stuff) for about $2.95, enough for 2-3 plug changes.
