    Default Measuring coolant temperature

    Wondering if anyone is measuring coolant temperature and if so what sensor and mounting method did you use?
    Still battling engine temp issues grrrrr.

    dorsal, we are not measuring coolent temp,s but cht with the senders sent with the 912s. we see cht at around 200f in cruses and 220f in climb. a little higher on 95f and above days. the oil timp, will run about 180 till about 95f then it seems to rise as the air temp goes up and take the water temp. with it. we have the large naca duct in the lower cowl with the oil cooler mounted in front or the radator. also we have an 180 thermostat in the hose from the coolent spider down to the radator.

    Hi,

    there is a fitting available that has has a threaded port for a temp sensor, it

    uses the same sensor as is mounted for the cht and oil. it is basically an

    aluminum fitting ( "hose splicer/ joiner" )that gets put into the coolant line

    before the rad. I will try and find a picture. I find that the coolant temp is

    pretty close to the cht temp , slightly higher on climb on a hot day .in cruise

    chts usually around 215 and coolant 195 F on 80F day.

    I bought the aluminum fitting from Leaf, part # R5312. Placed in line between radiator and coolant tank (which gives temp of coolant entering engine). Used the same probe from #2 cylinder head. Hope this helps.

    Dick, Kevin and James,
    Thanks this is helpful. I did a test last night that has me back to looking at my Dynon setup. I took a VDO gauge and hooked it up to my hottest cylinder leaving the other cylinder and the oil temp on the Dynon. After about 20 min of flying and pushing the plane the Dynon started to climb reading as high as 280 CHT and 245 oil while the VDO stayed steady and never exceeded 220 CHT (for the hotter cylinder). I think it is either a grounding issue again (most likely) or the 5v reference supply is sagging, more test to follow.
