    Hi John
    They are concentrated mineral deposits. They change colors throughout the year. Google Spotted Lake. Quite interesting.
    The Rogers Pass pic was actually at 9500. I have some quite neat pics of glaciers from the same trip. Was returning from a flyin at Fairmont Hot Springs. Had about 50 aircraft from as far away as Saskatoon and Vancouver Island.

    I had the privilege of flying a mission for an environmental organisation called "The Bateleurs" a few days ago.
    We volunteer our time and aircraft for use in the conservation of our environment.
    This time it was for a survey into the habitat and further conservation measures of the Riverine Rabbit https://www.ewt.org.za/DCP/dcp.html?...FeYp0wodc08EdQ which is an evolutionary distinct and severely threatened species. There are an estimated 500 left living globally.
    Beautiful flying in the semi-desert, with superb hospitality from the team!

    What a wonderful job they are doing!!!!

    Don't miss opening the pdf pilot's flight report at the bottom! (It is so small!)

    Yup, Jim.
    South Africa has a lot of taxes on their fuel price......

    It is just over a dollar a litre.
    $ 4.38 per US Gallon?
    Still, I think the Franklin116 Hp performed very well to do 11 hours on 202 litres. 18.4 litres per hour - 4.8 Gal/hour
