Took a day trip in some beautiful spring weather we are having to Mckenzie Bridge airstrip. Its a grass strip in the mountains about 50 miles East of Eugene, Oregon right on the famous Mckenzie River. Been wanting to check it out for some time and today was perfect. Its one of the prettiest river valleys in Oregon I think. Good camping areas so I will definitely be going back again with camping gear and fly rod.

I'm almost halfway through my Phase 1 flight testing. Yesterday was spent getting a bunch of data for stall speeds and airspeed calibration.
Today I was in the mood for a fun flight and went as far as I could on the 50 mile radius. These pictures were taken just as I was descending into Cascade, Idaho. The airport is just off the nose and the Cascade Reservoir is to the left. I hear the back country calling soon.

Looks like you are having fun Phil! How is the trim with that engine? And you certainly have a beautiful place to do the test flying! It is autumn here (fall) and a nice 10c this morning - beautiful morning for a local flight!

Hello Ross!
Looked like fun.
The pics show you in autumn--Nicest flying weather.
What is the distance from the far end of the runway to mount beauty? The picture makes it look dodgy to take off the way you are landing??
Have you guys had any frost yet?
We are due any time from now...
A group of us had a short field operations workshop in Stutterheim this weekend past.
I learned something about landing it in a 7m x 12m box (20feet x 36 feet for you North American blokes) five times in a row... It is damn difficult when you have gullies etc on the approach. The heavy's like Maule etc could do it quite regularly, but, man, the kitfox just floats in the slightest updraught on that high approach angle!!!! (Stabilised approach).
I will post some pictures as soon as I get them.

Hi Reid,
yes, Autumn is the nicest time of the year here - another month and the snow will start up in the hills, but we are already using the heater int he early mornings! And yes, the hills at the end of the runway make it pretty tricky to both land and take off to/from that direction. We only just had a meeting last night about that and are going to install some signs to warn people after a few close shaves recently. Having said that, the Kitfox handles it easily.
here is the link to our airstrip fyi.

I was interested to read about your short field workshop - did you have a specialist instructor for that and how long did it do for? I would interested in the format too as we have been thinking of something similar her for while. I guess a report on that workshop would create a lot of interest in a separate post and it would be good to get everyone talking about their techniques - up for it?
cheers
