    Default Mt Beauty Flyin

Hi All, We had a really good flyin at Mt Beauty about a week ago - despite the stormy weather we had 72 aircraft there. We held a STOL 'practice' session with 12 aircraft involved - Kitfox 4, Savannahs, Hornet Stol, Super Cubs, Aviat Huskey and Eurofox. One of the Savannah's achieved the shortest landing - 35meters! DA for the session was 3200ft and temp of about 29'c. Headwind component 8kts. The Kitfox put in a credible performance with take offs and landings at about 60-80meters. I didnt fly as I was running the event but dont think I could do better than 80 meters. A lot of fun and the crowd loved it. And next year Dave and Ben will have their lovely new KF7's there!!!

    cheers

    Well Done Ross!
Kitfox Front and Centre! Good display.

Re the Savannah- We can't beat them! There is a factory here in the Eastern Cape, East London that a friend of mine owns, and he regularly does 30m .
But I smile and get there quicker.

By the way, how did the highlander do, Ross (Blue/silver one)

Yes indeed, there'll be at least one other SS7 there next year !. And it sounds like I need to get some really really short field practice sessions in beforehand !!.

    Default Mt Beauty STOL Group

Here is another link to a video Gayle put together of some the STOL group at our flyin. The first part is the group returning from a morning fly-out to notice some gravel bars and the then there is the landings in the STOL 'practice'. You will see Craig's red Kitfox 4 doing nicely amongst the others - this is the plane I flew over from Perth for him about a year ago - He is all over this plane now and you might notice he has installed new grove wheels, Dresser 22' tires and and pneumatic tailwheel.

    cheers

    Stop it Ross!!

Now I'm trying to figure out how I can put the Mangy in a container and meet it on the other side of the world. Without losing too much flying time in the process!

I looked it up. $1280 for a 20' container LA to Auckland. We should be able to fit at least two birds in one 20' container, maybe more. Sounds like an interesting possibility. (LA to Brisbane $885 and up.) Unfortunately I don't think we can fly from NZ to Australia. So if we want to do both it will cost more. (I'm showing $2k, but that seems high.) Actually, if we can come up with a 10 gallon passenger tank we could make the hop, but it looks pretty insane.

You are welcome to join us Guy, and even any Aussies that want to come over to New Zealand.

I was just talking about this with my buddy in Perth. I would love to spend a month flying in Australia. I think if the Aussie’s knew anyone who wanted a used Kitfox, I could go look at the one they wanted, buy it, and ship it over at no cost to them with caveat that before the plane is officially sold to them, I use it for my bucket list Aussie flying trip.

This would be a couple years away but you Aussies let me know!!
