    Mr Bill

I think I have bored everyone here to tears with my praise for the Kiev!!

When I decided I wanted a Kiev the system here in the UK dictated that I could only have the 263 model on my Mk 5 with a 912S, even though the 283 (slightly bigger diameter prop) which the Kiev website said was more suitable. Now I don't know a lot about the mystery of propellers and the subtle effects of small differences but I can assure you the 263 produce remarkable results. They are easy to set the pitch on and very low maintenance. I have 100 hours behind mine now.

I seem to recall someone here tried a 283 on their 912S and wasn't convinced of the performance benefits. I have never use a 283 so cannot comment.

At sea level and at 70f, solo and with 100 litres of fuel I easily get 1600 fpm climb and 105 mph at 4900 rpm. 5200 rewards 115 mph. These figures are delivered with a static rpm set at 5300.

I don't know about Whirlwind. All I will say is that the 263 Kiev on your engine, if set up properly, will not disappoint you.
