    Default 912 - Bad Float

Just thought I would share this.. whille preparing for my condition inspection I found a float that was not floating quite as high as it should.
Getting ready to balance the carbs and thought this should be fixed.
Called LEAF , you know how much they get for these things?
They come as a pair for around $105 dollars . . are you kidding me ?
I was expecting 10 maybe 20 bucks but over $50 each wow.
I think these are more $ per ounce than gold!!
I had an old Bing 54 in the junk box used one of the floats from that . .
See ya at OSH Ill be down at the UL area with Larry, I will probably have my Ridge Runner there Maybe next yeaar the Kitfox

joe , i know what you mean about the price of the floats . i should replace mine as they are the old style like the ones pictured . i was wondering how your engine was running with the float in that condition ?

I bought the plane late last year and am just now getting it going..
It seemed to run OK at Higher rpm at lower speeds a bit rough. I will attempt to balance the carbs soon to see if it clears up. I have the use of a friends vacuum gauges, not having done this before will see how it goes.
As for what year the engine is late 90's i believe I will need to check on that - 2 hundred and some hours on it . . .
When I called LEAF they told me that the floats in the Bing 54 (503) carb were the same as the ones in the carbs used for the 912 engine so i just used a float I had from a Bing 54. You can get a Bing 54 on ebay for around $50 or probably get some floats ata a cycle shop for a reasonable price . . . Joe

Dave the sn is 4152.353 the plane was registered in 95 so I am guessing 1993 or 1994 ? Is there a place you can find serial number info for these engines? I looked on rotax-owner but did not find it there.
and maybe AD's by serial number would be nice to know . . Hey I got lookin some more on Rotax-Owner and found the sirvice bulletins - over 100 wow.
