Thread: Mass Balance for Flaperon Too Long

Default Mass Balance for Flaperon Too Long

Searched the forum for this problem but couldn't find a post on it. I test fitted the mass balances on my right flaperon today, and although they fit pretty well on the leading edge, the trailing edge of the weight sticks out about 1/8" aft of the TE of the flaperon skin. This makes the pre-drilled hole in the weight too close to the edge of the skin: too small edge margin. Anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking of grinding them down to fit, then drilling another center hole forward of the pre-drilled one, and fill it in with epoxy. Any other ideas our there?

How about ask them (Kitfox) to replace it?

If for no other reason than as a reminder about quality control.

I had to do exactly what you proposed, grind off about 1/8" and relocate the hole-no big deal.
