    Default Aerotherm preheater

Got this system for Christmas, works wonderfully with a very high connivence factor. When activated for ~3 hours (at which point it is off most of the time) my oil temps are at ~80 deg with the plane ready to go by the time I taxi to the end of the runway.

    Pros,
Heats entire engine compartment, block, oil, battery etc.
Thermostatically controlled, can be left on with no worry of over heating.
No mods or stuff attached to the engine.
Cell activated remote switch is fantastic (perhaps the best part)

    Cons,
NOT cheap (this rig ~$800 with switch)
Not particularly portable (though does fit in the baggage area)
The unit uses a simcard from T-mobile that will run ~$10 for three months.

    Comments,
You can get effectively the same switch for ~$200 and connect to some block heaters from Amazon to get roughly the same setup for ~$250.

Just wondering if if the aerotherm can be activated by various CellPhones and do you have to use T-Mobile sim card.Has anybody used a Tanis preheater? I like the idea of using a cellphone to activate.

The switch can be activated by any phone (cell or otherwise) as long as it recognizes the number. You can program several numbers into the unit. As to using different carriers for the unit's simcard you would have to ask Aerotherm but I think so as long as you have the ability (phone that accepts the simcard) to set it up correctly. As I noted in the comments the switch is available stand alone from other sources.

Just started using the setup again as the temps are dropping, very happy with it.

    Default Re: Rieff Heater

I just installed Reiff Heater on my 912 for the cold months coming up.
This is my second KF7 with a 912 I had the same heater on my previous
aircraft and I purchased the remote unit to activate it as well. I live in Oregon and went with the 150 wt unit and worked well for my conditions. I had to mount an external antenna on the hangar for reception and no problems. The antenna was only 25.00. Any questions feel free to contact me.
