    Default 912 rear cover

Is the 912 rear cover, the one that covers the flywheel and the ignition pick ups an option? I don't have the cover and the original builder pics don't show one being there so I am curious if it is necessary? It's $50 which seems pricey for a piece of plastic.

pretty sure its an option , i dont have one on mine . might not be a bad idea along with screens over the case vents for the alternator . if anythng metal falls in there it will stick to the pmg and cause some serious damage .

Yup, my engine didn't come with it either and I ordered it from Lockwood. It is a black plastic cover. As I remember that part didn't require a 2nd mortagage on my house.
