But really, I have had fun on the Alvord Desert, and in the John Day River (be careful in here, lots of private land). Also search the forums for Red's Horse Ranch or Minam.

I am familiar with the Alvord desert and Red's Horse Ranch, but would really like more detail about where on the John Day you can go.

The John Day trip I made was a ton of fun, but I cannot give any advice. I might have landed a few places I shouldn't have, and was informed later. Hopefully someone else can help us both out; I'd go again.
I have also stayed the night at Lands Inn in John Day; it was a good experience.
