I was wondering what this part was. I got a "floatbrace" when I bought my Classic 4. but the seller (second person to own the plane) had no idea what is was for - he thought it was some part to hold the wings together when folded. The plane was built on Full Lotus floats but the brace was never installed. The landing gear was bought separately and installed later and I have the feeling the brace came with the landing gear because it is red like the landing gear, while the plane is yellow.
Last year I flew without any problems on Aerocet amphibs but now I am not sure now if I need this brace and what it is supposed to do or prevent.
Any thoughts?
Ron
Hi Ron-
As I understand it, per the kit manufacturer, the lightweight Model I-III (and maybe the Model IV-1050 since I believe the fuselage tubing is the same as the Model III) required the structural brace for float operations. To the best of my knowledge, the Classic IV-1200 does not because the fuse, carry thru and lift strut tubing was beefier for the higher gross.
Thanks,
Doug
