912 series and Carb Heat

I would like to take a poll of people flying with 912's, What model and if it has carb heat or not . Rotax suggest haveing it , and import laws require it , unless proven not to need it. Thanks

912ULS - no carb heat - do have the airbox and under cowl screened alternate air.

no carb heat and 2 ru2700filters only. No problems. fly year round.

I also fly 150 to 250 a year in the kitfox, the rest in the RV, total last year was year to date, 400hrs.

So, most of us know that you "can" get into Carb Icing in temps of 70F and lower, but I think it requires moisture...which isn't something the folks in AZ have much of. LOL! I'd think that the filters do a fine job of slowing the air, which in turn warms it (no Venturi effect), which in turn would help prevent Carb Icing. Take it or leave it!

With the intakes of the carbs in the rear of the under-cowl area, the air temp is well above the worry for ice, IMO.

I removed the 5# worth of scat tubing and other junk under my cowl and do not regret it.

But the air cools down when the fuel is vaporized, so you can have carb ice even when the temperature of the air going into the carburetor is well above freezing. (Generic comment, I am not saying the '912 needs car heat.)

I flew all winter (in northern Wisconsin) on skis and didn't have any carb ice problems.

To quantify my earlier statement: I believe the design, location and environment of the carbs in a 912 Kitfox, makes icing highly unlikely.

I did not say impossible, but highly unlikely.

I have just imported a Model 5 Vixen from CA. I installed the Sky-Drive water manifolds and have just started flying it. These were accepted by MD-RA and seem to provide sufficient heat to the carb body so ice will not form. Bob at Light Engine Services in Salmon Arm has them.
