Default 912 ULS Oil Pressure Sender

Rotax and Garmin have confirmed that the original first generation VDO sender that came with my 912 ULS will not work with the G3X. I've been presented with two Rotax replacement options: Keller (456180) or Honeywell. The Keller screws into the engine, the Honeywell uses a hose to remote mount at the firewall to reduce vibration. They indicated that some airframes need the remote mount due to vibration that causes the indicator to not hold steady and the service life of the sender to faulter.

I'm a KF 7 SS. Does our airframe need the remote mount?

    Thanks for sharing your experience.

Can't speak for a rotax , but I had several failures of engine mounted senders on my Continental . Finally went remote mount a few years age with good results so far . Bruce N199CL

I would highly recommend a remote mount for longevity.

Jim have you had one fail? Is there a history of them failing?

Dustin, I have had one VDO sender fail after about 800 hours. It was remote mounted on the firewall. I replaced it with the same new VDO and it is still good after about another 800 hours.
Not personal experience, but I have heard on this forum and from others that when mounted on the engine, they fail sooner (sometimes much sooner), and it doesn't seem to matter much whether they are VDO, Kavlico, or other brands. This is just my own hearsay, so take it FWIW.

Kitfox sells a nice remote mount kit, which is what I am using.

Okay good to know! What are the symptoms of when they fail? Just read nothing?

Mine got quite erratic when it (VDO) failed. I suppose their are other failure modes.

That is the most typical failure. Next is broken, chaffed or grounded wiring.

mine read high intermittently, so i guess there are all different failure modes . Bruce N199CL
