    Default Wing storage

My kit arrives in early July.
I need to unpack the box and put it all my garage temporally. My concern is the wings. Can I place them up against the wall on the leading or trailing edge without damaging.. eg can I put in my house in hallway. The rest of the kit is in boxes.
    Thanks Lyndon

    Lyndon,

There should be many responses on the various ways people have secured their wings.

I will suggest that the trailing edge of the wing is easily damaged; and, you don't want scratches on the front spar which is a little more exposed. They look really secure in the box - might be a good place to keep them if you can find space?

The flaperons are easily damaged on the trailing edge or if the hangars get pushed against the surface. I fabricated a pair of profiled wood hangars screwed to the garage wall for the flaperons.

Most of us built a simple wood stand with sling straps to cradle the wings vertically, leading edge down for storage. There should be many photos of various people's wing stands if you search.
I'm not talking about the wing rotisserie, which is a different thing. You will need both-a rotisserie for working on the wings, and a storage stand.

I can't leave it in the box. It's huge, I have no idea why it's not in 3 or 4 boxes. It's 19 feet long and over 7 feet high. The box alone weights over 1000kg. The truck can only leave on my driveway. It's winter here and I need to get inside my house and garage.

It will just have to go leading edge down on some blankets till it make slings.
Any idea how long they are. I will measure my hallway for fitment

Pay particular attention to this advice and be extremely careful with the flaperons. Their skins are very thin and easily damaged (bending or scratches). It's very easy to push on the hinges hard enough to make them cut the skins at the ends of the hinge slots.

My standard wings are 13 feet 6 inches (4.12 meters).

I use various, padded storage hooks to hang wings from my garage ceiling. Also did similar to hang tail feathers and flaperons on walls and ceiling beams. This worked fine until wings were covered then wings HAD to go into slings. I put wheels on the wing slings which made it very easy to move wings around to allow work on fuselage and tail feathers.
As stated before, the flaperons are VERY fragile and easily damaged. Flaperons lived on their perch on the ceiling beam until finally plane assembly in my driveway.

You will have to look carefully in the middle picture to see the silver flaperon hanging off garage ceiling beam.
