    Default Best hose clamps

I have a very small coolant drip, wondering if anyone has better hose clamps for the cooling system?

    Brad,

I believe what works best for the rotax coolant hoses is constant pressure clamps. The Rotax constant pressure spring type clamps for the small cylinder head coolant lines work well.

I had a particular issue during cold weather ( like minus 20F or so) in the winter where the large radiator hoses with automotive style clamps would allow the joints to drip when the parts contracted due to the cold. I purchased a bunch of constant pressure (tension) clamps from fastenall which have a stack of small belville washers under the screw to accomodate any changes in materials from expansion/contraction with temperature. These have worked perfectly ever since - no drips no matter how cold it gets.

I tried to find those fastenall clamps, are they about $100 each? or was I looking at something else? The link you showed just went to fastenall site, not the specific clamps. JImChuk

    Jim,

If you know me, I wouldn't pay 100 for a clamp! I'm too cheap!

The ones I got were part # 0427735 for a box of 10, MFGR's # 47016(Ideal Tridon). Back when I got them, it worked out to $8 each - still not cheap but I was really tired of the drooling in the winter.

Once you get to the Fastenall site - do a search on constant pressure clamps or constant tension clamps'

As an aside - I would have been happy with spring clamps for the radiator fittings but could never find a correct size spring constant pressure clamp. Nice thing about the fastenall ones is they are adjustable which the spring clamps obviously are not.

Thanks Dave. I found them now. About $12.50 each currently. JImChuk

I had the same problem. When I replaced the hoses, I used constant tension clamps from Belmetric.
    https://belmetric.com/clamps/constant-tension/

They have sizes in 1mm increments and there is a nice instruction on how to choose the correct size clamp.

They drooled a little at first, but after going through a few hot/cold cycles, they sealed up nicely.

Another option is Oetiker clamps (also known as ear clamps). They're a single-use clamp that requires a special tool, but both are cheap. Aircraft Spruce has the clamps in various sizes for $0.36 or less, and there are a lot of tool options under $35 on Amazon.

I recently discovered these when fabricating a modification to my car (coolant vent line). The "tool" looks suspiciously like something used when putting on horseshoes. Turns out they are very easy to install (and remove), and look very OEM. I went the Amazon route.
