    Default SuperFil Removal Tip

This is just a quick tip for others who may have had one of those moments where you accidentally mix your SuperFil using a 1:1 ratio instead of the required 2:1 ratio.

When incorrectly mixed to a 1:1 ratio, the SuperFil remains deformable and slightly sticky. Removing it at ambient temperature can be time consuming, but application of heat will soften it nicely and allow you to fairly easily scrape it off. In my case, I applied 300? F heat using my heat gun, which softened it to a putty-like consistency, which could then be easily scraped off.

Hopefully this helps someone else save a bit of time.

Good day and thanks for the tip. I have yet to start using it but am always looking for ways to speed up the work, or a mistake! I?m still looking for a way to smooth over the Hysol 9460 after it has cured, sanding is difficult.

    Thanks, Matt Koeniguer (Kingfox)

Hey Matt, if you dip your fingers in isopropyl alcohol and then rub the hysol it comes out smooth as glass. I would recommend wearing gloves just to save on the mess, but you'll be surprised how good the results are.

High spots in Hysol can be easily cut down using a wood rasp or riffler file. If you go a tad too far, SuperFil to the rescue!

I?ll give that a shot Mike, it sounds like an easy fix to get it smooth from the get go.

Hello Eric, most of the Hysol that I need to smooth is already hard. I?ve done some filing, sanding? and I?ve gone to far with both so soon I?ll be learning how to use the Superfill! Have a good day, Matt

    Hi Matt,
If you have one, a Dremel tool with a sanding drum work wonders for dry Hysol. I've used Hysol in small places where I didn't want to break out the Super-Fil and it makes a nice, rock-hard surface that sands fairly easily with the Dremel if you keep it moving so you don't get depressions, that need to be filled again. Ask me how I know!
