Default Can anyone see any issues.

I want a 12 inch Dynon as my PFD
    I want a 3 axis Auto pilot.
    Dilemma??
G5 as a backup GMC 507 with 3 servos. This would work perfectly as an Auto pilot/ Backup with a battery.

    Complety seperate units.

Am I missing something. Super Sport build with a 916
    Thanks Lyndon

    Lyndon,

I'd be very tempted to go all Garmin, or all Dynon. Whichever you prefer.
As an electronic tech. I find that mixing up different brands/components can be a challenge to integrate together.

My all-Garmin install was pretty straight forward, and the Garmin tech. line was very helpful when I got stuck.
Calling two different mfg.'s when there's an issue could result in a lot of finger pointing and frustration for you.

    Anyways, it's just my 2cw!

Yes I come to my sensors, all Garmin.
I like Trent Palmers set up. Except I will run a G5 as as backup.
I'm still in the fence about 3 axis. My theory is I can afford it, this will be last build and my last few years of flying as age is catching up.
    Thoughts, thanks Lyndon

Good call. I have the G3X, just installed the yaw dampener (which is a bear if you have covered already so since you haven't, make your decision before you do) and have the G5 as a backup attitude indicator.

Garmin for the win! If you are doing a autpilot, do the yaw damp. I found the autopilot to be very lacking without it. Adding the yamp damp was one of my favorite upgrades. I have it dialed in now!

Dustin - Sorry but your message folder is full so I am asking here. Apologize for the hijack on the thread Lyndon.

Just finished installing my yaw dampener and hope that it is as nice to have as both you and Brandon have said. Putting that plate in after having the plane covered was a real bear. Originally I was dumb enough to think I could do it without removing the horizontal stab. Well that didn't work as I am sure you know.

Was wondering if you would share your settings for the autopilot. I would agree that the way mine is right now it's OK but just OK. Biggest reason is most likely the operator in that I don't have a lot of experience with autopilots so am kinda doing the blind man staggering around when it comes to settings.

Thanks man. Hope you all have a great holiday season down there in Utah. So far not much snow here in WA and lots of rain so I've had time to do some upgrades and start my annual.

Hey sorry I am traveling, but when I get back I will post my settings and tips. Also cleaned out my inbox.

I'm curious. Other than IFR configurations, is there really a need for a backup display? In these days of high-end displays like Dynon and
Garmin it seems incredibly unlikely to fail unless a wire comes loose. Has anyone had a display like that fail?

I'm not aware of any display failures, but obviously there are a variety of possiblities and always a chance. For VFR flying I consider my iPad and phone as sufficient backup; I use Garmin Pilot.

FYI I have had my G3X screen dimming/going black in the winter because the GDU was getting too hot from the use of cabin heat. The heat was trapped under the instrument panel. I turned down the heat and the screen came back to it's normal brightness in a couple minutes. The fix for this would be to direct outside air directly on the back of the G3X display and you could consider putting ventilation holes in the top of the instrument panel that could double as a defroster.

I have my G3X panel on the left side and a G5 mounted in the center of the panel. I wanted a back up to the G3X because I am a student of Murphy that if it can go wrong - it will. Also most of my experience is flying military aircraft and they all have a 'standby' gyro. However another advantage I've realized to having the G5 in the center is if you have another pilot in the right seat flying. The main panel is hard to read from the right seat so having the G5 mounted in the center gives the right seat a display of the important stuff as well.
