I recommend you get the set that goes from 10-22AWG. I would think you would very rarely use the 26 and 24. Every once in a while, depending on the wire, mine will do the same thing and not strip. I drop down to the next smaller size and gently squeeze just enough to cut the insulation and then go back to the correct size. It usually works.

The dies may be worn, in which case a new set will fix the problem. Also check that the tool frame is not bent, causing a misalignment between the cutting edges of the dies.
Available die sets are listed here. Just grab the part numbers that cover the wire gauges you'll be using. There's some overlap on the common gauges.
