    Default Fiberglass wingtips too thick

    Model 7 STi.

the fiberglass wingtips finishes substantially thicker at the trailing edge. Do you just grind down the fiberglass to match the wing?

    Thanks,
    Pete

I wouldn't do anything until you cover the wings. They do grow a bit thicker with fabric and paint.

Grind one or fill the other. Looks to be a big difference on you pic. What covering are you going to use?

The fiberglass is way to thick for the trailing six inches or so - not even close to the ribs on the wing. In the picture above the top skin is flush the top - view is from below...

    Using Kitfox supplied Poly Fiber.

The poly fiber system does add some thickness so you will probably want to wait till you see the final thickness before grinding the wing tips. I used oratex and it is very thin since there's not painting products added and you could grind it now for that.
I had a lot of trouble with one wing tip not fitting and had to remanufacture it a bit too.
I was told the wing tips were a fiberglass warm up practice for when you get the cowls...It was a true statement.

Thanks Harlan. Heard basically the same thing from Brandon. Watched your top tank surgery video - helpful, thanks. I guess I’ll just move on last those and double back.
