Default Fuel Level Sight Glass and Decal

The build manual has a two piece backing plate for the fuel level sight glass. I cut and installed the two piece backing plate some time ago but was never that happy with the two piece design. Recently I was about to cut and attach the graduated decal to the backing plate while it was installed in place on the wing root rib. I experimented with some paper copies and quickly realized that getting the decal in place smoothly was going to be a challenge. I came up with an alternate idea that I'll share below. I fabricated a one piece backing plate of similar shape to the two piece design but with with a couple of small cutaways that allow me to slip it into place. The pictures below show the two designs and how the one piece design goes into place. I haven't installed the decal yet but it should be very simple to do now before the backing plate is installed.

Great idea! I like that much better than the split version.

Wish I had thought of that during my build. Never was happy with two piece. Maybe a project to do on a bad weather weekend.

Elegant solution that I will blatantly plagiarize... Nicely done Larry!

    Gentlemen,
Thanks for your affirming words about the one piece sight gauge backing plate. As a follow up I attached the decal and clear plastic cover sheet over that both flawlessly with no bubbles or wrinkles. It was easy while the plate was on my table top. Its alway nice when a new idea works out for us all. By the way, I have incorporated many innovative ideas into my build and virtually all of them came from the clever minds of many of you on this forum. I don't know how I would have got this far without it. Also for those of you that own a gram scale this design is also lighter because it eliminates two screws (LOL).

And you now have a grease pencil note pad on either side of the gauge. I like.
