    Question Carb flange failure

This week-end i started my engine (Rotax 582) and was 3000 rpm full throttle...!
I thank about a frozen carb, low external temperature and one egt off or very low.
I decided to have a look at the engine and one carb was completely disconnected from it the flange was broken between the two clamps.

My instructor said it's an usual failure it's scheduled to replace them every 100 hours.

I also had an oil leakage on the exaust system. Can i start the engine now since i have cleaned it and changed the spark plugs, the older one was brown toffee colored and sticky.

    Thanks

If you're using Rotax carb sockets, they should be replaced every year. That's just my rule but you can check for cracking if you think that yours doesn't need replacement. There's a much higher quality replacement that is supposed to last much longer. I bought these last year and I'll try to find the info. Don't worry about the oil around your exhaust. It's just unburned gas and oil left over from combustion. Most goes out the exhaust pipe. A little may seep out the connentions. James Thomas

Hey again, contact JBM Industries, 3761 Morley Dr., Kent, Ohio 44240 or call 330-678-9537. The last info I have has the 582 sockets at $28 each. They also have the best exhaust springs I've ever seen. James Thomas
