Default Where to buy new tires

What is a good source for new 6.00 X 6 tires and tubes? My tires are 26 years old. I was looking them over and they have quite a few cracks between the treads and on the side walls. I don't want to blow a tire. Aircraft Spruce has them and two tubes and tires is $315. Just wondering if anyone has a different source.

Sounds like the going price to me, but check Desser Tires they might be a little cheaper.

    Maverick,

What brand of tires did you get to last 26 years?

My last set of 6.00 6 Air Tracs lasted 4 years before the groove cracks appeared; and, I am very particular about inflation levels.

They came with the kit. The kit was created in 1996. They're Goodyear.

    Maverick,

    Thanks for your response.

I recently took a wild elbow guess and bought a set of Goodyears to replace cracked air-tracs.

Maybe I get lucky this time!

    Thanks

I used Goodyear Flight Custom II tires on my T-18 and only replaced them once in 28 years. The second set were in great shape when I sold the airplane in 2018. They were smaller (5.00-5) than what we use on the Kitfox, & the Thorp landed a hell of a lot faster, FWIW. I bought a set of 8.00-6 Goodyears for the Kitfox before getting the smooth tundra tires from Desser. The Goodyear tires are heavier, and pretty expensive, but they are very good tires. They will probably last a very long time for you, Dave.

Curious John, how different are the 800-6 from the 600-6 and why go with an 800-6?

They're just a bigger tire - I believe in both diameter and width. They still fit on the 6" wheels. 8.50-6 are even a little bigger. I'm using the Aero Classic 8.50-6 4-ply smooth tundra tires. They are 22 inches in diameter.

Dave, I was wrong. Mine were Air Trac trainers, not Goodyears. I am replacing the Air Tracs with Air Hawk 6 ply tires. Sorry but, I'm sure you are glad you got the Goodyears anyway. My research revealed Goodyears to be the top rated tire provider.
