    Default Flaperon brackets install

I am nearing the end of covering and will soon be in the paint booth. I wondering when folks riveted their flaperon brackets in place. Before painting the wings or after painting their wings and why, what product did you use to prime the brackets, they seem to have a coating of some type on them from Kitfox, a plated coating perhaps.

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Jim,

The bracket plating on our early S7 appeared to be cadmium. In any case the plating is intended to inhibit rust and corrosion (but it will dull with time and exposure).

Rather than introduce an additional color (the plating) I decided to prime with white epoxy primer and finish with white aerothane to match the wing color.

    Thanks Dave,

Did you rivet the brackets on the wing before or after painting the wing?

    Jim,

I painted the wing first, then riveted the brackets on. I am sure it has been done either way; and, I don't know if it matters that much. I wanted to be sure the paint on the wing had no edges showing along the brackets.

I think you would paint the wing then install after. You need to paint the brackets w/epoxy primer then paint. The wing just gets polybrush/polyspray/paint through the gun. If you put the brackets on you would need to primer them first off the plane, then put them on right before paint. Was easier for me to just primer/paint them along with a million other small parts that required the same process - tail access covers, etc.
