    Default Tail Wheel Spring

Has anyone ever straightened a tail wheel spring on a Kitfox IV?

They are like $90 from the factory. Just replaced mine last October.

I've done it on a Aeronca Chief, and my Avid Flyer. Used my 20 ton press. (Harbor Freight special) JImChuk

I've done it before with a really big vise, pipe wrench (padded jaws) and a long iron pipe "cheater bar".

A spring maker should be able to make one up for you. Tail springs are a consumable and should be replaced every now and then. Better than a beat up rudder

I am finishing up rebuilding my IV and have an aft CG issue and replacing the new 3 leaf factory spring with the grove aluminum spring to save a little weight. It’s painted off white. Planning on doing the switch later this week and selling the leaf spring. $50 plus shipping.
