    Default Landing gear weight

How does the weight of my stock bungee cord gear on my Kitfox 5 compare to the weight of the Grove gear?

Recently I took delivery of delayed Grove, aluminum gear legs. Had it stored in my son's bedroom....he had the audacity of coming to visit so had to store at the airport. When he left, I lugged the gear legs back up to his room and passed over the bathroom scales. The aluminum spring gear, single piece, still wrapped in shipping pads, weighs in at 39 pounds. Doesn't include axle, mounting bracket, nor wheels.
    Hope this helps some.

I weighed my Grove when I was building... it came out at 35.3 lbs.(with the 4 roll pins installed & no shipping material - just the bare gear leg assembly).

In my opinion it is weight that is well worth it! It makes the main gear nearly indestructible. In the very rare occasion when it might get bent, it can be sent back to Grove and very likely rebent to factory specs and reheat-treated like new.

2 Axels for 6” wheels with wheel pant extension = 2.86 lbs

6” wheels with brakes magnesium = 15.28 lbs. I just ordered a set of these and total shipping weight with box and packing was 16 lbs.

Landing gear for Kitfox models 5-7 =34.3 lbs.

Total Grove landing gear system weight= 52.44 lbs.

Add about another 2 lbs. for brake line fittings and brake lines (stainless), axel nuts and spacers.

On my Model 3, when I converted from standard gear to Grove gear, I did not weigh the individual components. However, my empty weight went from 635 to 650 pounds... a weight gain of 15 pounds.

On my model 4 I just weighed the stock landing gear legs. Without covering they are 15 pounds for both legs without axles or brakes or wheels. Just the legs.

The cabane gear I just made for that airplane is 20 pounds total, also without wheels brakes or axles.

The Grove site lists the model 4 gear at 24.3 pounds and the series 5,6,7 gear is listed at 34.3 pounds. Not sure what a stock 5 gear weighs. I was under the assumption that the grove gear was pretty much the stock gear for the series 5 and up.
