Default Where does one go to apply for an N number?

Hadn't thought about it but I guess I will need an N number someday if I'm lucky.
Would someone give me a simple walk through where and what to do?
    Thanks

Harlan - you might want to give the EAA a call - for something on the order of $17 (if I remember correctly) they'll send you a kit with everything you'll need - instructions, forms, etc. - for n number, registration, airworthiness . . . . . .

I agree, that EAA packet is worth its weight in platinum, no kidding.

    Harlan

The EAA packet is worth the small cost. If you want, on the FAA website you can also see what numbers are available and if you have a special one in mind and it is not in use or reserved, you can reserve it for $10/yr. (if it hasn't changed)

Just start searching the FAA registry and figure out what tail number you want. Then reserve it.

Default Got it done. 61HP is reserved!

61 has no meaning, it was one of only 3 two numbers left with HP. HP is my initials . Thanks all.

N61HP? I like it! Easy to say and short, the best kind. May want to put a N in front of 61HP in your signature so people don’t think your building a 61 horsepower STI
