    Default Adding a Transponder

Newbie here so please be gentle.

I am in the process of purchasing a very nice KF6 that doesn't have a transponder installed. I need to install a transponder w/ altitude encoding after I get the plane and obviously ADS-B by the end of the year. What solutions have you had success with?
Thank you and I hope to become a productive member of this community as I build my knowledge base.

Dave, if you need a transponder and ADS-B out and would like it all in one unit, this is the unit I installed in my 7SS project..

Mine does not have ADS-B in capability but Stratus does have a new model with that feature. I have the Stratus 2B unit already that shows weather and traffic on my iPad so that feature was not required. Take a closer look on Appereo’s site or click on SteinAir’s link below. They are a site sponsor and dealer for the Stratus line of products. Very easy install. Haven’t flown with it yet but will soon.

Finishing up this thread. I ordered a Garmin GTX 335 with the encoder, cable and antenna from SteinAir. Things couldn't have gone any smoother. Cutting the dash has to be one of the most nerve-racking things one can do on their own aircraft. I attached the rack, mounted the antenna and wired everything up. I made a shelf under the dash for the GPS antenna (Desertfox4's suggestion) so it is out of sight. It passed the transponder check and the ADS-B airborne test.
