Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
I've found a small gas leak in the fuel level sensor tank. It appears to be the bottom most connection. I think it's the fitting and not the hose (I replaced the host about 3hr engine time ago during annual). Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. Also wondering if the gasket dressing in the image attached is the right one to re-seal it? Once removed what's the best way to clean off the threads?

I wouldn't use that. If you are talking about the threaded connection, I recommend PFTE thread sealant, ensure that you use one that is not affected by petroleum products.
Permatex does have that product.

Interesting... When I asked much the same question about fittings in my header tank, I was advised to use exactly that product. I have since become aware of a product called Gasoila that contains PTFE. I'd be interested to hear others' recommendations on this topic.

This is the stuff I've used, and it works good. Even good on an old plastic header tank. JImChuk

This is what's on there now and didn't seem to work. Or maybe I just applied it badly. Probably the latter since all other areas are fine.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
I use loctite 567 thread sealant.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
Good morning,
The builder's manual for our S7 recommended Permatex 9AR for fuel fittings (tanks, header, etc), which most recently has been sold as Permatex 80938 (both called "Tack and Seal).
It is a white, non hardening compound. All of the fittings I used this on from the start have remained leakproof; and, if necessary to unscrew them, it is still somewhat soft (non hardening) and easy to take apart.
I think Aircraft Spruce still finds it on a search for "9AR", although I have purchased it at my local auto parts store.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
I found the 9AR to be unobtainable. Contacted Kitfox who sold me that 85420 stuff
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
Permatex Tack and Seal works great, in the end there's a lot of sealants that work well
This works well for threaded fittings:

Agreed - EZ turn is good stuff.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
Sorry for the slow reply. I ended up trying the 85420 stuff. At first it seemed to work. No leaks after a few flights. Then, after sitting for 2 weeks I went back and found it was leaking again. Both at the bottom fitting and the sensor fitting. It appeared to have eaten away at the blue sealant as what was left was white-ish. I removed it again and have re-cleaned and re-sealed it again using the same stuff (i don't have anything else.). So far on a pressurized bench test it's holding after 24hr. I'm going to leave it for the week. However, I'm a bit concerned the threads are damaged in the aluminum. This time I went for broke with tightening the fittings and they seemed to get a full extra rotation. So either I was too safe previously or I just screwed them up for good. None of the fittings in my header tank have suffered the same and they are using the original other permatex sealant which hardens. If it leaks this time I'm removing it and just going right to header tank.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
I’m having this same problem with the 85420 stuff that Kitfox recommends. I think I may have applied it incorrectly though the first time. If you read the instructions, it says to coat both sides and let it dry before assembling. It also says it needs 2 hours to “set” and then 24 hours to cure before you expose it to fuel. I’m trying this now and will report back what happens. If this doesn’t work, I think I’m going to try Oatey’s Great White Pipe Sealant. You have to be careful that the sealant is safe in plastic for the float sensor.

I had the same problem with the plastic float sensor threads; none of the thread sealants seemed to work for very long. I finally cleaned off the old sealant and used Hysol on the threads. No leaks now for about 8 years. I know this is fairly permanent and not a recommended procedure, but I got tired of messing around and found a solution.
Re: Fuel Level Sensor tank (above header tank) gas leak
So far it's been holding up fine. I check every time I get in now because it was such a problem. Something about it still makes me uneasy - but no drips - totally try.
