Looks real nice Mic !
Looking good! Very nice keep them coming
Here are a couple pictures of the CF instrument panel we had fabricated. It has a ways to go, but a laser cutter will make short work of it.
Hay there SSFoxBuilder, carbon fiber is neat stuff and vary light wieght. I lost 2lbs. by making my model 5 panel. Plus It's a nice touch with a matt finish to keep the glare down.:p
Here is mine, building as funds are available ....2ea garmin g3x, and garmin autopilot and radio stack with audio panel...over kill I know, but I like it
Attachment 5682Good, thanks for asking. Here is a project I picked up in Montana a few weeks ago ragwing rw11
Recently my altimeter quit. I decided to go with the MGL ALT-3. However, I changed my mind and decided to bite the bullet and go with the MGL Extreme. The altimeter would have just done one thing. The Extreme is an all in one and will do more than I will ever need. I got it installed and I believe my panel is complete. Installation was very easy as it fit right into a 3 1/8 hole. Had to run an OAT sender which the extreme came with a nicer sensor than the Altimeter. I put it in the passenger rear quarter window under the wing. Haven't had a chance to fly it since we are in the midst of a blizzard here in central Texas but this weekend it's gonna be back in the 70's so I should be good to go this weekend.

I'm making progress. A little paint and some labels.
I blush to confess that I used gray propeller paint.
By the end of the week it should be permanently mounted in the airplane.

Nice Tom, looks great 👍
Hey Tom,
Panel looks great....Nothing wrong with prop paint:).....FWIW.....I used some left over body lacquer I had from a '87 Merc Grand Marquis.....proper application gives it a nice satin, non reflective surface (post # 5 on this thread). Also used it for the seat pan, glareshield, custom baggage bay...oh crap!...what didn't I use it for?
BTW - what did you use for the markings on the panel?
Cheers,

Hello Dave,
I used a Brother Label Maker with black letters printed on 1/4" clear tape.
See more here!
All the best,
Tom
Tom,
I have been following your build website and noticed you have installed your panel and are now wiring it. FWIW I found that it was MUCH easier to install all the panel components and then prewire as much of them as possible on the bench. Then install the panel in the airplane and finish up the wiring. In fact I came up with a way to pivot the panel down 90 degrees so the backside was facing up, which made the final "in-place" wiring much easier.
I gave serious consideration to prewiring the panel on the bench but, in the end, I decided to wire it in place. My avionics-rocket-scientist friend is coaching me on assembling the harnesses on the bench and then installing then in the panel. I'll probably have to remove the radio mounting bracket to install the molex connector and antenna lead.
It goes without saying that I may regret my decision. If this happens I'll "fess-up" on the website.
At the moment my avionics-rocket-scientist friend is on some South Pacific Paradise Island fixing a radar station. I hate it when he abandons me like this.
My panel by a kitfox III with rotax 582
as of today thanks to a couple on field friends
Chase,
That looks nice and clean. Good layout.
Thanks Steve,..once my A&P friend gets done with the wiring it will be set down under the panel support tabs on the bottom,..he is making the radio wiring harness now
can't wait to try her out :)
Nice job Chase.
That's going to be nice. Did you decide where to install the inclinometer?
Thanks Steve
Mike, i will probably get the smaller one like we discussed, and put it center under tach
Dynon Flight Dek D180, IPAD Mini w/ GPS, (Glove box behind IPAD), Garmin GTR 200, and Garmin GTX327

Looks good Jch! How did you mount the iPad mini? Also, any plans for the gap between x-sponder and the GTR? I like the clean look of the panel!
I will be putting the IFLY to the test starting tuesday, forecasted temps for our route are in the mid 90's once we get past the Apalachain trail,, i have my sectionals all set with way pts etc, as the ultimate back up. There is a good chance we will be flying with at least 1 door opened :) but the plan is to do most of the flying morning and afternoon, find a big ole shade tree in some field to land by with a pond to take a dip in before the mid day heat takes over😁
At 88 degrees last Tuesday, I had it opened for the maps. I flew for about 1.5 hours, it was so hot, I stuck it in the refrigerator at the airport when I got back. It was very hot to touch. I have a second generation regular size. I will not waist money on another iPad!!! I like my first generation it worked fine this iPad II way too hot!
iPad screens look good in the hanger, take it out on the Tarmac on a nice sunny day and read it.
I have no experience with the older Ipads, but we are using 4th gen Ipads with retina displays and have no issues with the sunlight readability or overheating. AFSOC issues them to us and I really haven't heard any complaints. YMMV.
AFSOC - Air Force Special Operations Command?
Yes Sir. They are finally catching on and purchasing Foreflight for us along with enough Stratus receivers for all the aircraft. Only seems logical after all the money I'm sure has been spent on Jeppesen apps and other such ones that are really no use to us.
Mine is a retina display, maybe it's an iPad III, I know I have taken it to the Apple store, and they even commented how hot it gets.
Finally, the panel is done (for now). Dynon D-10A with AP74 autopilot, Garmin GTX 327, GTR 200 and Rotax engine instruminets. GPS for now is Garmin 500, subject to change after Oshkosh. Lettering was by silkscreen from the SolidWorks file used to design the panel. A vendor used the SolidWorks file to cut the panel from .080 thick 6061-T6 aluminum, using waterjet cutter. It took 14 minutes to cut out the entire panel and cost $60. Silkscreen and printing was another $145.
Wow that looks great!
This is my simple but does all that I could need panel. Now I can run the engine and move along.
Milestone achieved, panel ready for painting
Stby ASI and ALT is a requirement by the Swiss FAA, Com VHF Garmin GTR225A, iPad mini with Airnav Pro
Thanks to all that have posted here as it has given me lots of inspiration in planning my panel. Now it's time to return the favor.
Here is the latest iteration of my Super Sport panel plans.
Garmin G3X touch screen, GTR 200 radio, Ipad Mini in a flypad mount, GDL 39R ADS-B and GTX 23ES remote transponder.
Almost time to start cutting holes.
That looks really nice! I am planning on the the same panel as yours. I will be putting my iPad Mini in the portrait position, not in the landscape position like yours.
I like the idea of having the GTR-200 instead of the remote GTR-20.
I am hoping to get mine painted in the next month and the panel and electrical will will be the next big task.
Thanks,
Originally, I was going to use the GTR-20 remote radio and save a couple hundred dollars. But Garmin's remote boxes seem really large. I ended up mounting the transponder behind the pilot's seat. Then couldn't find enough room left over on my avionics shelf behind the panel for the remote radio. I do like the idea of being able to still control the radio if the EFIS screen goes kafooey though.
Done

This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago. Haven't been able to work on the Kitfox since then. I'm doing the annual on the old Cessna and there are a lot of issues.
I'll be back at it in a week or two!
That looks very nice Tom!
You're getting there!
