FSDO versus DAR

after spending most of the late morning and early afternoon on the phone with the FAA concerning who was going to be coming out for the AWC on the SkyPirate,..finally got a straight answer ..the FSDO will be coming out once I'm ready,.. which may be bit earlier then June 2011 ,my proposed ready date.
the deal around here is,..and I'm sure other area's as well ,,if you can not wait for the FSDO to set an appt.,.then your option is a DAR if you want to pay the price,..which starts at $500.00 and can get quite pricey
Turns out the FSDO comes down my way quite a bit so even if I have to move the plane on trailer to one of the near by strips that she frequents,..then it shouldn't be too much of a problem..
just getting my eg's in a row and talking with the FSDO a bit to get an idea of what I'm up against,..since the decision making on limitations concerning the plane is at the FSDO's discretion.
and I want the lowest limitations possible.

each fsdo is an entity of their own. At mine, the FSDO said he couldn't do it, had to be the DAR. And I know the guy really good. So I had a dar do it, cost me 300 dollars. Now get this, the guy at the fsdo was there also, he was evaluating the dar. One nice thing, the guy at the fsdo was following my build, he was over at the shop many times to look over the project, so when I needed pics and junk, well I didn't. went just fine for me, just lost 300 dollars is all.

From what I gathered talking to the different FAA people in St Luois and talking to the FSDO herself ....I know the guys at the shop local here she goes to ,..just never caught her there when I had stopped in ,..but now ,..I'll offer her some lunch if she will come and take a look prior to the AWC inspection,..and from what she said to me on the phone ,..she is not one to put any more limitations then required on an experimental ,..and in some cases ..if the plane is set up right she will make an exemption on the experimental AWC that will allow me to do and go everywhere GA aircraft go,..I plan on setting it up for IFR although most of the flying will be VFR,..
I got some work done on the tail today,..should be putting the motor on before too long,..I need to take some more photo's and send them out.

I guess I did not realize how good i have it with my DAR, he is also the EAA tech councilor that just went over my plane, he said I could now close up my center console and glare shield as he has already seen the work. All this for a cup of black coffee.

I checked with or for a local EAA chapter ,..the closest esisting EAA chapter doesn't want to add my area ,.which I didn't know would be an issue,..so I'd have to take the plane to them,..But,..after more research ..a new EAA chapter is in the works for my area to be based at TBN,..which is also the local CFI's base ,..he and 2 others and myself, if I join the group will be starting the new EAA Chapter ,..meeting is on the first tuesday of each month so tomorrow in the afternoon,..so I'll be going .
As for DAR or ASI or AI's in this area that could or would be a part of the chapter,..I don't know yet ,.but it will be brought up at the meeting.
