Not that I'm close to needing the finish kit, but I thought I'd ask the group about using the round cowl on a new SS7.

I havent run run this across McBeans yet, but I've heard that he would recommend the smooth cowl.

Any thoughts on what the negatives are on the round cowl? There's so many cool, paint schemes that would look good with the round cowl but not so good with the smooth cowl.

(I'll be using a Rotax 912iS)

Thanks,

Mark

Heya Mark,

It's such a personal decision I would recommend you go with your heart.
There's a case to be made for both styles. Others here with more experience
can tell you the finite points of each one. A search can uncover all of this as well.

All the best!

This is just me, but function comes before form (or looks) I think the round cowl will block way more forward visibility then the smooth cowl. The better I can see when flying or landing, the better I like it. YMMV JImChuk

I’m function over form too. Although looking at Trent’s before and after, you get both. It’s night and day how his plane went from looking dated to a sleek new machine.

Personally, I love the round cowl. I'm hoping to redo the FWF on the Mangy in the not to distant future and am hoping that I can modify a "5" round cowl to fit my needs.

In my personal opinion, I think Trent's plane lost "something" now that it looks like every other airplane in the sky.

Mark - If it helps any, I went round (SS7) and cabane gear, love the "retro" look. No pictures yet as I'm just getting into covering.
