You saw it first on the Freedom Fox! We are pleased to announce the release of the optional firewall forward packages featuring the new Kitfox CarbonTech. The cowlings (top and bottom), the boot cowl and NACA are all made with carbon fiber, epoxy resin and a UV stable clear gel coat allowing the carbon to be left exposed if you want that special accent to show in your color scheme.
The biggest advantages of our CarbonTech are a weight savings of 7 pounds compared to the standard Fiberglass cowls, a more rigid cowl set and the general aesthetic appeal of carbon fiber.

The upgrade is $1845.00 on a standard Series 7 Rotax cowl.

First run of cowlings will be available late February to early March. Get yours ordered soon.

John, I am just curious. Back in 2013 when I was doing my training with Stick&Rudder, at least one of Paul's planes had factory carbon fiber cowls. Are these new cowls the same as those, or are they redesigned?

Those were a concept at the time.. and they were being out sourced at the time.

This is how to make a great aircraft better.

Save Weight ... Improves performance.

Love it!!

Carbon cowls for the IV are a possibility. Get a hold of us and we can work on it....

Cool stuff,
What is needed is a carbon fiber seat pan. The seat pan must be one of the largest fiberglass pieces on the A/C, with possibly the largest potential weight savings.

By the time you lay up the required Kevlar needed for safety reasons I don't think it makes a big enough weight difference for the cost.

Did you mean to say Kevlar?

Yep, when carbon fibre breaks it shatters into many sharp knife like pieces. The Kevlar stops that from happening.

Ah. Interesting. I've never seen that done.

Yup, the Kevlar adds the flexibility with the shock absorption.

We layer the kevlar and CF in the boat construction

What boats? Do you design / build / race?
