Exhaust pipe angle

New to me 7 with a 912 is a mother bear to remove the oil filter. So much so the previous owner distorted the exhaust pipe to allow more clearance. I looked at another 7 and his exhaust tubing comes more straight down and then bends toward the muffler. He is also a second owner and doesn’t know the history or why ours are different.

Is this a mod or a newer type? I’d think if I took mine off and had it bend it would shorten the pipe and would not longer fit the muffler.

Appreciate any advice.
