It has been a while since it has been out on tour, let me know if you are interested.

This is a Dynavibe "classic" with a variety of brackets provided by other users.
$50 plus shipping to the next pilot.

I just balanced my prop yesterday (thanks whoever made the steel welded brackets), the unit is in good working order.

Will it work on an o-200 with 2-blade whirlwind prop? Is it just a matter of adding washers for weight?

Will it work on an o-200 with 2-blade whirlwind prop...

Yes, it should work with any engine. Yes, you typically add washers, bolts and maybe nuts on your spinner. If you haven't balanced your prop it is definitely worth doing.

Josh had a delay, package on its way to Mike (213RV), send me a PM when it arrives.

Tip, don't put the reflective tape on the back of an aluminum spinner plate, will cause inaccurate results. Use the blade root for best results.

I have the dynavibe. I balanced my prop last saturday.
I sent Dorsal and Yoda a PM but neither have replied.
I'm throwing this out just in case either is listening or anyone knows another way to contact.
What address do i send to next?
How much does Dorsal want for the rental, and how does he want payment?

Im not certain of what has happened. GuppyWN PMd me about the Dynavibe. I replied to that PM a week ago without reply? So I sent another today and in the event the Private messages are not getting out of my Cue, I figured I would post here. I could use the Dynavibe whenever it is available. Thanks.

I forgot to add my experience but highly recommend you remove the lower cowl too. I didn’t and the prop wash pushed the cowl into the exhaust tube and burned my paint. Not the end of the world as I needed to repair some cracking around the lower intake and repaint anyway but DANG IT!

Huge thanks to Dorsal for renting out his DynaVibe!

I used it on my Kitfox Super Sport with Rotax 912ULS and in-flight adjustable IVOProp.

The initial DynaVibe averages were in the 0.25 inches per second range.

After several runs and weight additions, my final averages were 0.05 IPS for climb pitch at 5400 RPM, and 0.01 IPS for coarser pitch at 5200 RPM. I thought I would never get the vibration down that low.

Time will tell if I feel any difference in flight.

I just received the Dynavibe. I should have time this weekend to get my prop balanced and will send it to Skidookid asap. Questions I have. I assume once balanced, pitch changes can be made without having to rebalance correct? Also What are people using for balance weight and where are you mounting them on whirlwind props?

Dorsal
11-05-2019, 04:30 AM
Joe,
Where weight is needed I replaced two of the perimeter screws that hold on the spinner, I used ones long enough to put a few washes and a nut on the back.

PapuaPilot
11-05-2019, 07:20 AM
Typically you install the final (permanent) weights on the spinner backplate as far outboard as possible. Use a screw/bolt, self locking nut and washers as needed to make the correct weight. You will need to drill a hole in the backplate at the correct clock position. Make sure it doesn't rub on your cowling.

Another method is to put the final weight on the inside of the backplate flange. To do this you may need to make a countersunk hole and use a countersunk machine screw holding the weights.

BTW there is a maximum weight you should install on any spinner bulkhead and it can vary depending on the brand/model. This has to do with the structural strength of the backplate (think about the centrifugal force).

While doing the balancing I remove the spinner screw nearest the correct clock position and install a longer screw/washers of the correct weight. Don't forget to account for the weight of the screw you removed. Sometimes it's best to split the solution weight between two spinner screws.

I haven't used a Dynavibe, but hopefully it can do all of the calculations for splitting weights and the final weight (if it is installed at a different radius).

JoeRuscito
11-27-2019, 05:56 PM
Hey all! It Took a bit longer than expected to get the balancing done but its complete and I got it down to an average of between 0.04 and 0.09. Who's next?

Typically you install the final (permanent) weights on the spinner backplate as far outboard as possible. Use a screw/bolt, self locking nut and washers as needed to make the correct weight. You will need to drill a hole in the backplate at the correct clock position. Make sure it doesn't rub on your cowling. ...

That’s definitely the FAA approved/recommended way. I’ve balanced many dozens of props on experimental aircraft, but I just hate putting holes in a spinner backing plate. If something changes (new prop, etc.), the ideal location for perfect balance weight addition may be just slightly off of that hole, or at the very least you may now have an unnecessary hole in the plate and have to drill another one in a new location. With Lycomings it is often possible to do a good job utilizing the holes that are in most of the “newer” ring gears (every 30 deg.) and adding bolts, nuts & washers as necessary. Otherwise I have used automotive stick-on lead wheel weights very successfully. I carefully clean & gently rough up the inside of the back plate flange in the proper location(s) and apply the weight(s) there. I remove the foam mounting tape that comes on the weights & replace it with high temp/high strength 3M tape. I’ve also molded my own thin lead strips to use when only small amounts of weight are necessary and I want to have a greater contact surface area for adhesion. The lead is easily trimmed to the correct fractions of an ounce or gram. After the weight is applied and final balance check, I then apply a thin fillet of silicone sealant around the perimeter at the base of the weight to seal the edge of the foam mounting tape against air & moisture. In the approximately 25 years I’ve been doing that, I’ve never heard of a weight coming off. However, if you do need to rebalance with new weights, they are easily removed with no damage to the spinner backing plate. FWIW.
