I got lucky and found a half hanger near me (Waiting list for regular hanger is many years). I will need to fold wings and then roll airplane into hanger. Am I correct that tail will drop down on the skid once I fold wings? If so, has anyone made a wheeled dolly (for the tail skid) to move the airplane around, and then a stand to keep the tail up and nose down while stored?

Hi George
I is quite easy to build a stand that attaches with pins through the tubes that where meant to attach a hitch.
Have a 5 or 6 inch diameter swivel dolley wheel on the lower end.
Makes the aircraft easy to maneuver on any flat surface.
I am presently overseas and not available for pics but the attachment is very straightforward
Have fun

Here is a video showing how someone made a stand like you describe. JImChuk

George,

Similar deal here; although, this simple dolly was fabricated from scrap around the garage for the purpose of getting the plane in and out of the garage when I was working on it - at a height for the dolly so that the prop and the tail were at the same height when the wings were back and the tail down.

One thing to keep in mind is you will want to have the plane as level as possible if you have fuel in the wings. The lower the tail, the less fuel you can have on board so it doesn't run out the wing tank caps. The video from the other contributor with the yellow stand shows the plane essentially level - that's ideal but depends on the height of the door you want to roll it under - my home garage was 7' so the tail had to be down halfway to make it work.

Photos attached with wings back and wings out.

Check this one out. It's a tail dragger and an Avid, but the design is sound...

do a search in the forum for "tail wheel dolly" Look on page three of that thread. I build the yellow dolly for use with a nose gear SS7. There are more pics on another thread but could not find it. I can email more pics if you are interested. Neville.

This is the setup I worked out for moving my KF in and out of my hanger. Works perfectly! https://youtu.be/DXBf57jZniU
