jabiru or similar 4 stroke engine... Any advice, caveats etc> I already see I might ahve trouble finding a mount for theHKS, Greeksky says I have to use a new engine mount to install the HKS...and Id need anew muffler, I can probably handle the rest of it....ANY advice opions I appreciate because I can learn form others who have been there done that already and maybe save me grief. What model Kitfox do you have?

It is a 1999 Skystar Kitfox Classic IV with a 8 gallon nose tank and a 503 rotax engine. Jerry at Greensky indicated I would need a new engine mount for the HKS

I have a feeling most of the advice you will get on this forum will lean towards the Rotax 912 series engine. Engine mount will be available from Kitfox, as well as complete FWF package.

That would be my suggestion. A 912 Rotax is a great combination in a Model 4. And if you scrounge around a bit you can get reasonable deals on them used.

The HKS is a pretty nice motor, but not many out there flying in Kitfoxes. They are light weight engines though, so you might still be able to get by with leaving your fuselage fuel tank?

The Jabiru just doesn't make the thrust a 912 does, so they tend to be underpowered by comparison.

Im starting to see that the 912 might be my only option.

Thanks

you will also need wing tanks.

It is a skystar kitfox classic IV with a 503 engine and one wing tank installed, have the other wing tank, just not installed, both wing tanks arefibreglas so not sure if I should use them, I can get fuel here without any alcohol at this place that sells farmer fuel, they dont want the alcohol either...
I am working on trying to round up the stuff to install the HKS, if that fails, maybe a 582 or if I have to a Rotax 912, its only money!!!

does anybody have any experience of Aeromomentum engines? They are releasing a 75hp 4 stroke, similar weight to a 582.

Possibly, worth a look?

Looks similar to the Suzuki motors and gearboxes that are being sold by Vasilli in Canada. Raven redrives also did some Suzukis with a belt drive. I tried one in my old aircraft and it never delivered the power that I was hoping for with the 3 cyl version. I bought a 4 cyl that is supposed to develop about 85 hp but as the specs show it is slightly heavier than the 912. There were a few used in Zenair 701s and I saw one in a Rans S7 but not many super reliable conversions. I really wanted to be one of the reliable motor conversions but in the end I found a 912 that is all I was hoping it would be. I have just over 200hrs in the past year and the Rotax has not missed a beat. A used Rotax 912 gets my vote for best value and reliability.
