All I can say is Yahoo! This thing is a kick to fly as a taildragger! The conversion took about a week of elapsed time as I needed to get some parts, paint the steel parts on the tail spring, and get everything done. The actual moving of the gear took a couple of hours using an engine hoist on the motor mounts. I upgrade the Matco tailwheel with the kit they sell. It gives you 2 bearing surfaces instead of 1 on the fixed part of the mount. Seems like a good upgrade. It also gives you a grease fitting to keep things moving smoothly. I put 8.5x6 Air Trac tires on the mains and thus far am running about 20psi in them. Sure is fun setup this way!

Congrats on the conversion, Andy. It looks great! Another example of how versatile the Kitfox is. Got any grass stains on those tires yet?

Put in about 3 hours of flying today, lots of landings, Grass and pavement, all was going fine, getting a little complacent... you know what's coming next... setup for a no flap, full slip approach to a nice grass strip... was able to get 5 touch and go's out of a single approach as the bottom dropped out a touch and we started bouncing... pour on the power to go around and fly out of that one!

Still love it!

Looks great Andy! If you want to practice on turf, come on over to 44T ( Hoskins Field ). Nice little turf runway over by Olympia. I live about half way down on the south side.

can you post where you got the tires.

I need to find a grass field to land on. They shut down our grass at fielts for some reason. Even the controllers don't know why. They are doing some work on the lighting on the runways. One day I go out to fly and the atis says sod runway closed. I always used the sod for flying the kitfox, so I'm a little upset. It was just getting nice to, nice and bumpy, oh ya, use that rudder. Maybe somebody complained about the bumps and so the answer was to close it down. You know how these airports can be.

The tires are basic Air Trac 8.50x6 tires by McCleary which can be bought from Aircraft Spruce and other parts places. They are quite cheap in the scheme of large tires.
