would like to know a good average empty weight of a Kitfox 5 outback with a Lycoming 125 hp. Is 970 lb empty considered heavy ?

It sounds like you are on the heavy side, but I'm not aware of anyone using the engine you mention. What model Lycoming do you have?

Those of us using the Continental IO-240 (125hp) have ended up with EWs from 885 to 950 pounds.

Okay, you have the same engine as I do, a Continental.

Your empty weight of 970# is the highest I have heard of.

I have a Series 5 with the IO240 and my empty weight is 950lbs. Bruce N199CL

My Lyc 0-235 Model 5 weighs in at 950. Love it!

And my 912 UL Model IV weighs in at 710 and Jim and I had to add 10lbs to the tail. Yes I love it too, but Jim will run circles around me. :)
