Hello Guys,

I bought my Speedester two years ago and the bungees came as in the photo.
It this OK to land with that gap? Doens’t look too much loosened?

Thanks for your help, fellows!!

Looks way to loose to me. They should be pulled up tight. 60" bungee loop to loop with 5 wraps was what was used on early Kitfoxes. That was with 3/8" shock cord used for bungees. Not some cheap bungee material you might buy in a hardware store. JImChuk

My favorite method of installing bungees. Thanks Dave.

That must have been on a Raven. There was one at his airport. On the Kitfox, it loops over the place he hooked to, and goes off the side and loops over another lug. I installed the bungees last summer on my Kitfox 1 by myself. I did use Dave's trick on the top, and jammed a stick in underneath to hold the bungee to the bottom, then stretched going up to the top and used the hammer handle with a stick under the handle to hold it while I pulled from underneath the plane for the next half wrap. It was a real bugger though. Much easier with a second person. And way easier on a Kitfox than an Avid. With the Avid, you don't have the double tube to jam the handle into. JImChuk

The 4 1200 seems to have a different setup with another capstan? Off to the side, but the "Dave" trick works a treat on either.
What ever happened to Dave, his YouTube posts were not only educational at times but always entertaining.

The Kitfox 1 has the capstan off to the side also, that's why I thought it was a Raven. On the Avid, the bungees wrap around the top of the seat truss. No place to put the hammer handle on them. I did one a week or so ago on my Avid rebuild. Had help though. JImChuk

Hi JImChuck,
Do you have any drawings (for the old kitfox speedester) showing how to prepare the shock cord (regarding measurements) and how to install it?
Thanks a lot,
Marcio

Pans, Don't have any drawing for making the bungee loops. I used safety wire, double wrapped and then pulled tight, a couple twists to lock the wire, and then a couple more wraps pulled tight and then twisted a bunch of times. I see I mentioned the 60" dimension, loop to loop, and I think that is correct. I would use the 3/8" shock cord from Aircraft Spruce I suggested in my earlier post. If you watch Dave's youtube video mentioned in Av8r3400's post, it will show you how to install them. JImChuk

I was wondering that myself. His setting the bead video was one of my favourites.

I replied to one of his videos a while back, and mentioned that I hadn't heard from him on the forums. He said something about being busy with other things. JImChuk
