All too soon it was time to leave. We got up
the next morning to clear skys, but a strong
wind from the south. Our plan was to climb to
10,500 ft and head for Nankoweap Mesa, and fly
the Zuni Point Corridor south to exit the canyon
at Zuni Alpha - then fly by Mt Humphrey and Flagstaff
and stop at Sedona for a rest stop and fuel before heading
to Marana Regional, west of Tucson.

As we approached the north rim of the canyon, we entered what
I can only describe as a mass of downward moving air. At 70 mph
I should have been climbing 1000 fpm, but instead we were
decending 1000 fpm. This was not going to work, so time to
execute Bug Out Plan #1. We turned left and headed for Tuba City
to fly around the eastern side of the canyon, then on past Mt Humphrey
and Flagstaff and then down to Sedona.

What a great airplane we get to fly.

Relaxing in Tucson with my lifelong friend Bill.
We met in high school and played in the school
orchestra together. Bill played French Horn and I
a Cello. Bill is also an accomplished guitarist and
we play in several folk groups together. (Anyone remember
the 60's???)

Best of all (pun intended) Bill was the best man at my
wedding and I at his. So many memories - great memories.

Departing Marana Regional for the flight back home.
Glad to say Kathy loved flying in the Fox and we
are looking forward to next years Fly-in.

Great pictures and description Rodney. Thank you. A trip I'd like to do when my project is done. Beautiful parts of the southwest.

Nice trip Rodney. I'm interested in your jury struts. Are they faired or are they made out of oval tubing?
